October isn’t just the beginning of the academic year, but also the starting point of many projects carried out by the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra and the Music is for Everyone Foundation. Our home at Grochowska Street will once again host long-term events, created with passion for everyone and anyone who loves classical music but have no formal education, although initiatives for professionals will also be continued. What projects are these?
STAYnia Experimental Music Workshop is an initiative intended for fans of singing and playing an instrument. The project consists of the Generation-Gap Song Club (singing together and getting to know Polish and European folk and three instrumental groups – strings, accordion and ukulele. The Youth String Group was formed with younger musicians in mind. The ensemble accepts children aged nine and older, who have already had experience with a musical instrument. The we have a bluesy sound offering from Grocho Jam, a formation made up of a guitar band supported by wind instruments and a rhythm section. You can join any of the ensembles at any time. Just send us an email first. Please send your emails to: email@example.com.
The Smykofonia [Toddler Philharmonic] at Grochowska Street cycle of concerts is our proposal for families with children aged 0–5. Concerts are programmed based on expert experience and the repertoire is prepared with consideration of perceptual capacities of our youngest listeners. Each event lasts 40–45 minutes and the works presented are short and varied. Close contact with the audience is very important and this is assured by a host, without a rigid boundary between the stage and the audience. The space is arranged so as to enable freedom of interaction, with colourful mats and pillows laid out on the floor. All this makes for a very friendly atmosphere that is much loved by children and their parents in Warsaw. Smykofonia at Grochowska Street takes place an average of two weekends every month. This year marks the start of the Community Orchestra, directed by Wojtek Walczak – musician and social activist. This new initiative gives everyone an opportunity to play in an orchestral ensemble and is intended for persons that have received a musical education but are not professional musicians. The purpose of the orchestra is to develop a passion to play in an orchestra for the joy of making music together. The ensemble is planning concerts in hospitals, Community Welfare Centres and similar locations. You can still join the orchestra by sending an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
