On 31 August, Sinfonia Varsovia with Maciej Miecznikowski and Zbigniew Zamachowski will perform hits from the cult film Blues Brothers. Then, on 7 September, we will hear the greatest themes from Polish films and television series performed by Sinfonia Varsovia under the direction of Krzysztof Herdzin.
The upcoming anniversary of the outbreak of World War II is an appropriate moment to recall one of the most beautiful stories told on film, recalling Poland’s tribulations during the German occupation. On this occasion, on 29 August, the Concert Pavilion will turn into a cinema, screening Roman Polański’s film The Pianist. The story of Władysław Szpilman (played by Adrien Brody) is a poignant account of a man hiding from the horrors of the Holocaust. The film begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
A few days later the Pavilion will revert back to a concert stage to feature two concerts of symphonic music in the Sinfonia Varsovia at Grochowska Street cycle. First, we will hear music from John Landis’ cult film Blues Brothers, featuring Maciej Miecznikowski, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Jolanta Szczepaniak-Przybylińska and the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra conducted by Bassem Akiki. The film’s greatest hits were arranged by Wiesław Świderski. The Hommage à Blues Brothers concert will take place on 31 August at 7:30 p.m. Tickets priced at 15 & 10 złoty can be purchased one hour before the event.
The second encounter with film music will take on the form of a trip in time to the greatest themes from Polish films and television series. Conducted by the universally talented pianist, composer, arranger and producer Krzysztof Herdzin, the Orchestra will perform a suite of themes composed by Jerzy “Duduś” Matuszkiewicz. The suite includes melodies from such television series as Czterdziestolatek, Wojna Domowa, Janosik and Podróż za jeden uśmiech. The concert will take place on 7 September at 7:30 p.m. Tickets priced at 15 & 10 złoty can be purchased on the Orchestra’s web site, through the Going app and at the box office one hour before the event.
