Franciszek Wybranczyk (born May 28, 1934 in Studzienice) was a co-founder and director of Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. Upon retirement he fulfilled that function honorary.
In 1978 he became the director of Polish Chamber Orchestra, under art direction of Jerzy Maksymiuk, which gained fame as one of the best Polish orchestras in Europe and the world.
In 1984, with support of Polish Chamber Orchestra, and Sir Yehudi Menuhin as a first guest conductor, Franciszek Wybranczyk founded Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. During many years of the orchestra’s activity he cared for its highest level of artistic excellence and integrity, invited prominent conductors and soloists, and organized concert tours in leading concert halls of Europe, both Americas, and Japan.
Franciszek Wybranczyk was the originator and art director of the Sinfonia Varsovia Swojemu Miastu Festival that became Warsaw’s permanent cultural event of highest artistic rank with concerts frequented by multitudes of Varsovians.
He was a distinguished organizer and promoter of Polish and European music and culture and was decorated with Order of Polonia Restituta-Commander’s Cross, Decoration for Merit to Warsaw, and posthumous Medal for Merit to Culture “Gloria Artis.”
He passed away on May 31, 2006 and rests at Communal Cemetery in Warsaw.
Departed from our midst a great visionary, who put before himself great challenges and then effectively realized them, as well as a great enthusiast and a man full of charm and distinction.
