The 19th edition of the Franciszek Wybrańczyk Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City Festival starts soon. Four concerts have been scheduled in three locations in Warsaw on both sides of the river in the course of one week. The 19th edition of the Festival also celebrates the 85th birthday anniversary of Franciszek Wybrańczyk – founder of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra and originator of the Festival.
The Festival kicks off with a concert titled “A Symphony of Dance” (31.05 7:30 p.m.) in the Concert Pavilion at 272 Grochowska Street. The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will play Moniuszko’s Grand Mazurka from the opera Halka, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo fantasy-overture and Juliet and Grieg’s Symphonic Dances. The virtuoso solo part in Saint-Saëns’ Introduction & Rondo capriccioso will be performed by Anna Maria Staśkiewicz – laureate of the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition and concert master of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. The conductor will be Australian Benjamin Bayl in his first appearance with the Orchestra.
On the second day of the Festival Sinfonia Varsovia Brass invites listeners to the intriguing interiors of Prochownia Żoliborz to a concert titled “Brass on the Grass” (02.06 4:00 p.m.). Under the trees of Żeromskiego Park, the ensemble will play works originally written for brass ensemble, showcasing the merits of these instruments. The pieces are perfect to spend an afternoon listening to music on the grass and will provide an opportunity to become familiar with lively sounds combining jazz, Latin-American and film scores.
The third event of the Festival, a concert in Prom Kultury Saska Kępa will consist of classical repertoire. “Sextet in the Prom” (03.06 7:00 p.m.) will be a musical meeting of talented, versatile pianist Krzysztof Książek and the Sinfonia Varsovia Wind Quintet. The musicians will tackle works written by Polish and French composers: Bacewicz, Paderewski, Poulenc and Thuille.
The 19th Franciszek Wybrańczyk Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City Festival concludes in the Concert Pavilion. Dance rhythms and the enormous energy of classical music will be presented by the full cast of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra under the direction of Adam Sztaba. In “Friday Night Fever” (07.06 7:30 p.m.), the musicians will play some audience favourites, including Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story”, the Waltz from Jazz Suite by Shostakovich, Kilar’s Polonaise and Piazzolla’s Libertango.
