Recording from Salzburg Festival
Performers: Davide Luciano, Mika Kares, Nadezhda Pavlova, Michael Spyres, Federica Lombardi, Orchestra and Chorus musicAeterna, Bachchor Salzburg, Teodor Currentzis – conductor
Directed by Romeo Castellucci
Director Romeo Castellucci – a recognised Italian theatre author, graduate in painting and stage design – analysed the ambivalence of the character of Don Giovanni: vitality and destruction. He created memorable images, for example a scene with 150 women, expressing the terror of the main character’s love conquests. The emotional Mozart arias and duets under Currentzis’ baton unleashed an unprecedented vocal energy, composed mostly of young singers.
The three-and-a-half-hour performance does not linger even for a moment. According to a reviewer from Die Welt, it is ‘the most extraordinary Don Giovanni the world has ever seen.
