Symphonies: Understanding through sound. Symphony No. 1

Symphony No. 1, composed in 2019 for the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, is intended for four groups of instruments, spaced apart from each other, allowing the audience to move between the sound masses according to the principle of ‘Deep Listening’ Pauline Oliveros' principle in which ‘sound is a map, and walking is part of listening’.

Symphony No. 1 redefines the normative concert format, allowing the listener to move freely between layers of sound, creating a contemplative situation where it is possible to listen from afar and up close, to walk among the orchestra musicians in order to experience sound in a more embodied and spatial dimension.
