Night of the Museums at Grochowska Street

18 May, 8:00 p.m. – midnight
Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra,

Main Building, Rehearsal Hall, Concert Pavilion
272 Grochowska Str., Warsaw

The Night of the Museums at Grochowska Street will showcase some less obvious facets of music and the visual arts. Simultaneous concerts of the VRC choir, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia Wind Quintet, an exhibition of old photographic techniques and a midnight accordion concert by Paweł Janas is the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra’s proposition to spend a May evening in the historical spaces of the Orchestra’s home at Grochowska Street.

The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra opens its doors once again on the Night of the Museums to culture-thirsty residents of Warsaw. This year, the music will resound in three spaces at the same time – in the Concert Pavilion, the Main Building and the Rehearsal Hall. The simultaneous concerts will each be played three times (8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9:00 p.m.) so that everyone will be able to attend all three. The performers that evening will be the VRC choir, who will present their dreamy sounds in the Main Building, the Sinfonia Varsovia Wind Quintet will play contemporary music inspired by shanties and dances (Rehearsal Hall) and the Polish Chamber Orchestra will play what is probably the most popular music associated with night – Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Elgar’s Serenade for Strings (Concert Pavilion).

A photography Retro Atelier will be waiting for visitors in the Main Building for the duration of the event (8:00 p.m. – midnight). The exhibition will not only provide an opportunity learn about old photographic techniques, but also let everyone develop their own print using the cyanotype technique. At 9:30 p.m., after the mini-concerts there will be a presentation of a 19th century large-format camera which will be used to commemorate this most cultural night of the year by taking and developing of a group photograph.

The Night of the Museums at Grochowska Street will conclude in a grand manner with a concert for accordion and looper (11:00 p.m., Main Building), with somewhat less classical sounds. Paweł Janas will take his listeners into an ambient world of sound. The nocturnal meeting in Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra’s home will end around midnight.

Admission to all events is free.
