“This is a remarkable moment for Sinfonia Varsovia. After years of anticipation and hard work, we can finally welcome you to our home,” says Janusz Marynowski, Director of Sinfonia Varsovia. The first phase of the project at 272 Grochowska Street has been completed, and one of Warsaw’s most important orchestras is moving into the revitalized spaces so that it can now fully continue the activities at its own headquarters.
“We have been eagerly awaiting this moment […]. The three renovated buildings of the former Veterinary Institute at 272 Grochowska Street are becoming the orchestra’s home and, at the same time, a venue open to the public,” emphasizes Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw. Thanks to a thorough revitalization carried out as part of the first phase of an investment funded by the Capital City of Warsaw with additional support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, this historic building complex from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is acquiring a completely new look. The buildings, which for decades were associated primarily with animal care, science, and education, have been transformed into the modern headquarters of Sinfonia Varsovia. The project is part of the Capital City of Warsaw’s Municipal Revitalization Program until 2030.
The Warsaw orchestra will inaugurate its activities at the renovated headquarters with Sinfonia Varsovia – New Beginning Festival, which will take place from 11 to 17 September. “The ‘New Beginning’ in the title is more than just the start of a new phase of activity,” adds Marta Cienkowska, Minister of Culture and National Heritage. “It is an invitation to look toward the future, the courage to chart new paths of development, and at the same time a symbol of continuity and respect for the legacy of past generations.” The festival will feature symphonic and chamber concerts, recitals, jazz, contemporary music, and masterpieces of classical music from various eras. Sinfonia Varsovia has also prepared a series of educational activities for residents: workshops, accessibility-focused and sensory-friendly events, family concerts, and initiatives engaging local communities. An important element accompanying the opening of the new venue is the exhibition Polyphonies, created in collaboration with artists from various fields of art, curated by Aleksandra Kędziorek. The Sinfonia Varsovia – New Opening Festival will conclude with Mad About Music, which, after years of being held at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.
